I build product interfaces people remember.
Hi, I'm Alex Carter β a freelance product engineer & UI/UX designer crafting fast, accessible web experiences for founders and design-led teams.
A builder who treats interfaces like infrastructure.
For the last seven years I've helped startups, design studios and product teams ship software that actually feels good to use. My background is unusual: I started in visual design, moved into frontend engineering, and never left either β so I can take an idea from a rough Figma frame to a deployed, observable production system without losing the design intent along the way.
I care about the small things. The 16ms it takes an animation to settle. The contrast ratio on a sub-label nobody is supposed to read. The way a form should forgive you. Those details compound into the feeling of a product, and that feeling is what I'm here to build.
A toolbox built around shipped products, not buzzwords.
Depth in frontend, fluency in design, and enough backend to own the whole thing when needed.

What clients say back.
Alex is the rarest kind of collaborator β someone who can sketch in Figma at 9am and ship the component to production by lunch. He saved our launch.
We hired Alex to do 'some frontend work' and ended up with a re-thought product surface, a new design system, and a team that learned how to work together better. Worth every euro.
The 12 weeks Alex was embedded with us moved our roadmap further than the previous 12 months. He doesn't disappear after handoff either β still answers Slack questions a year later.
